Dead and Gone

It says here, at the bottom of page one,

That the days of the yards are dead and gone.

No more baits and throwing crusts for a gull,

No more dancing round sparks in the depth of a hull.

Loved the banter, the noise, the dirty old town,

Always loved the river we were well and truly sold down.

But that was then and the rivers rolls on,

It’s the same old tune but a brand new song.

So head up people and shoulders to the wheel,

‘cos it wasn’t just our ships that were Sunderland Steel.
