International Women’s Day 2019

SunGen supported the university’s IWD events this year by contributing funding to the SisterShack event in City Space.  In addition to stalls and DJing, there were talks on related issues, including Dr Julie Scanlon’s talk on issues relating to gender equality in the 2019. The brick was part of her talk,  rather than debris from a more pro-active attempt to smash the patriarchy.

A few weeks later, a second event connected to IWD took place in DanceCity, Sunderland.  This was a workshop where participants were able to learn the basics of aerial dance and how this can be inspired by creative writing to empower women.  The workshop was run by Dr Sarah Dobbs and Emma Bloomfield.  These photos show some of the participants, along with Emma.
