Vote100 in June 2018

We have been busy marking the centenary of (some) women first getting the vote in the UK with a series of events in June.  Bryan Talbot designed a logo for us which we have used across a range of products which we have been giving out at the events we have organised this month.

One Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th, we held interactive workshops for Year 8 and 9 students from local secondary schools.  The students were given brief talks on issues relating to gender equality from the time of the suffregettes to the current day, and then given the task of producing an artifact based around an umbrella.

The finished products showed how well the students had engaged with the issues raised, and also proved how creative they could be.

On Wednesday 27th, we hosted an Equali-Teas event in Hope Street Exchange. Women from across the North East were invited to tea and cake and to listen to talks from inspiring women. This also links with the University’s Athena SWAN agenda, and Julie Scanlon came along to explain what this and how important it is beyond the university itself.
