The conference will have a range of talks and workshops but of course contributions from our trainees, graduates and associated staff are what we want most of all.
We have SIX ways you can get involved – most involve you uploading a file or a video of some kind. The 13:00 (UK time) session will be a live session where everyone can participate.
- NEW! Submit a picture to represent your research.
- Upload a poster about your research.
- Upload a presentation based on your research.
- Upload a Teach Meet video about an aspect of your practice, something you have tried, or just something you are excited to share!
- At any time, submit your research assignments to the journal to begin the journey to publication.
- Also at any time, you can sign up for a podcast chat with Liz https://calendly.com/hidson
Presentations can be a poster with or without narration, a pre-recorded slide-based presentation, or a TeachMeet-style video, where you can speak for a maximum of 5 minutes about something you have tried in your teaching that you want to share. We think we have something for everyone but let us know if you have a great but slightly different idea! You can sign up for more than one type of presentation if you want to.
Digital certificates are issued for participation via Certifier.
Staff and students will need to log in using your university account to upload. Any problems uploading, email sunrae@sunderland.ac.uk.
Please submit your contribution by Monday 3rd June so we can get everything organised online for the 13th!
If you don’t have a university email address e.g. you are a mentor, please email your submission to sunrae@sunderland.ac.uk or ask your trainee to upload it for you. The system will only accept uploads via University of Sunderland email addresses.
1. Research Picture
Create an image or take a photo of yourself (no identifying school features or children, please) to represent your research. Provide a caption to describe/ explain.
You could use an AI image generator, Canva, or PowerPoint to create an image. You could take a photo of yourself holding something that demonstrates what your research was about e.g if it was about teaching reading, you could hold a book!

2. Research Poster
Create a one-page poster about your research using this SunRAE PowerPoint template.
You can fill it in from your work on either (or noth) of your research modules – you can copy and paste into the boxes, add any images and your name and city or region. Please save your poster as a PDF and upload it. Remember to proofread it!
Posters are a great way to get involved. Another option you might prefer is to create your poster but record yourself talking about the poster and uploading it as a video in the presentation section below.

3. Presentation
If you would like to create a slide-based presentation to share either live or pre-recorded, then you can use your own template. If you would like to use the University of Sunderland powerpoint template, you can download it below. You should still keep your presentation focused on the same topics as the poster. This will help you use your research assignment. If you would like to present live between 12:00 and 13:00 (UK time) on Thursday 8th June, you can let us know on the submission page.
Another option you might prefer is to create your poster but record yourself talking about the poster and uploading it as a video.
With a maximum of 15 minutes to talk, we suggest that you limit yourself to a maximum of 15 slides. Depending on the number of presenters in your slot, there may be time for questions at the end of the session.

4. TeachMeet video
A TeachMeet is an opportunity for teachers to share ideas, good practice, practical innovations and personal insights in teaching. You might have created a great teaching resource, run an extra-curricular activity, or have a top tip to share. Don’t be shy! Because we are #DistanceNotDistant, our TeachMeet is virtual, so you upload your video to share your idea.
You can speak for a few minutes (1-7 minutes) about something you have tried in your teaching that you want to share. You don’t have to prepare any slides – the idea is you just talk! You can of course ‘show and tell’ if you want to! Mobile phone recordings would be fine! If you would rather record as audio instead of video, please do!
You will need to upload your audio or video (or share the link if it is stored online) by Monday 3rd June so that it can be added to the virtual conference hall.
If you have not heard of TeachMeet before, please see this great 90-second YouTube video. If you do an internet or YouTube search for TeachMeet, you will see lots of ideas and past events.
5. Journal article
We are open for journal articles all the time, not just for the conference, so there is no deadline. These take a little longer for us to work with, so we publish three issues a year – the conference proceedings, case study research and action research articles. Get your journey started by submitting to the journal.
6. Podcast
We are interested in talking to you about your research all the time, so please sign up for a podcast conversation with Liz – it will be edited and published in the coming months, but I’ll be able to mention it at the conference.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
