A UK CV may be different from the style you use in your home country. The following guide provides the basics of what to include.

Do include:

  • Your education
  • Your employment history
  • Voluntary work
  • Skills, strengths and personal qualities
  • Achievements
  • Interests

 Do not include:

  • marital status
  • nationality
  • date of birth
  • photograph
  • referee details (addresses, emails, phone numbers should not be included)

The Format

  • it should not be more than 2 pages
  • easy to read
  • the format should be consistent throughout the C.V
  • use one font such as Arial, Trebuchet or Times New Roman
  • Use one font size – 11 pt or 12pt (except perhaps for your name which could be bigger)  
  • Headings in bold but not underlined

Language

  • no spelling or grammar mistakes
  • Clear and concise language
  • Easy to read, no long sentences
  • Easy to find information
