Museums and galleries: Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum has been named the UK’s museum of the year.  The museum is of great value across the arts and design subject areas and houses resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewellery, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theatre and performance. The free permanent exhibitions include newly restored permanent galleries devoted to European arts and crafts from 1600-1815 while the current high profile temporary exhibition is Undressed: a brief history of underwear. If you’re in London, it’s definitely worth a visit to see what’s on.

You can explore the collection before you visit and the website includes a lot of information about the research support offered at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

As well as being an excellent place to visit the V&A is also the home to the National Art Library which is great source for research and there is an extensive programme of short courses, annual programmes and workshops that you can sign up for.
