Boost Your Library and Research Skills in Social Sciences

Develop Your Research Skills Canvas page

We’ve created a suite of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Canvas pages to develop and boost your library and research skills in the Social Sciences.

You will find the pages on your programme page. There are three pages:

  • Develop Your Research Skills.
  • Improve Your Research Skills.
  • Become a Research Expert.

for undergraduates. The idea behind the pages is that no matter which level/year of your degree programme you are on you can follow the activities on any of the the three pages. Each one has the essential links to Critical Reading, Thinking and Writing, Cite Them Right Online (for referencing), Accessibility Tools (Texthelp Read&Write) and LibraryTalk for our 24/7 help. They also focus on finding eBooks, eJournal articles and using Key Subject Resources material. The Improve Your Research Skills page puts the basis in for a research project dissertation whereas Become a Research Expert takes it to a higher level with information on Access to Research, citation trails, Google Scholar  and SCONUL access to other libraries.

If you are studying for a Masters in either Inequality and Society or Social Work you will find there is page for you:

  • Become a Masters Research Expert.

It takes the basics from the Develop Your Research Skills for any masters student who is new to the University of Sunderland and incorporates the skills for dissertations at a higher level.

The pages include embedded videos to watch and quizzes to test out your skills.
