Academic Reading for Assignment Success
Academic reading at University is a bit different to the reading you may be used to even if you’re an avid reader.
Reading and engaging with the theories of your subject is how you will better understand and learn your discipline so throughout your studies you will be encouraged to read a range of sources such as textbooks, academic journals, reports, news articles and market research.
Reading as part of your academic studies incorporates a number of skills:
- Choosing what to read
- Choosing an appropriate reading method/strategy
- Critically engaging with the text
What does that mean and how do you do it? University Library & Study Skills have developed some study skills pages all about reading. They explain how to approach academic reading and include some activities you can do yourself.
