Ready to get started with Academic Reading?

Getting ready to come to University? Preparing to come back for another year of study?

Academic Reading is a really important skill, as important as your writing and referencing skills. Reading for your higher education is not the same as reading a novel, or buzzfeed article. It can take more time, more brain power, and sometimes the volume of reading expected at University can feel a little overwhelming. The skills you’ll develop at University will help you manage your reading and make the most of the time you spend studying.

Your Academic Reading skills will develop and improve as you move through University, and we’re here to support you through it. We’ve created an online tutorial to get you started. Our Reading for Assignment Success tutorial let’s you work through the various pages on topics such as ‘note taking and reading’ and ‘questioning your reading’.

We’ll also be able to provide advice and guidance on Academic Reading within our Study Skills service. You can come along to a Study Skills drop-in and ask your reading questions, or if you still need a little extra advice you can request a more detailed one-to-one appointment.
