Mary Watson is a ceramic artist whose practice includes both the functional and conceptual.Over the last two years she has developed two main lines of functional wares which she sells under the name of Mareware Ceramics. Skilled making underpins her working process, she construct her work using a combination of wheel throwing, press moulding and handbuilding techniques.

The use of colour, texture and decorative techniques are also integral to her designs. She is interested in the human form and its abstraction into the functional object, through her body of work she enjoys pushing the materials limits, playing with form, balance and negative space. Mary received a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2015. Alongside her personal practice she has also worked in Visual Arts Programming and has worked with Edinburgh Art Festival, The Arnolfini and Situations.Mary has recently joined The University of Sunderland Glass and Ceramics Department as Ceramics Technician.
