Brief: – Own Streets

Most of us are shaped by the place and the people we grew up with. It’s where we began. A sense of belonging can remain, via a range of varying emotions. We own those streets, and know details of the landscape invisible to a visitor’s eye. Our old stomping grounds. The driving force of nostalgia can powerfully resurrect memories, some of which are accurate reflections of childhood, others have morphed and become hazy over time.

Show us your streets, your hometown, your place of belonging. Use your approach to image making to explore themes in and around your community.

In tight economic times, global travel is beyond the budget of many. This should not discourage you from photographing. Travelling further afield doesn’t necessarily produce a more interesting photograph. What you can do as a photographer, is use your approach to image making to explore themes in and around your community.

Look inwards. Photograph what interests you. Trust your instincts. If you find it compelling, there’s probably an audience that want to see it, and we want to see it and exhibit it at Photo North Festival 2018.
