WRITE Festival 2018
“Be inspired by words” – Find Something to Suit Your Needs at WRITE Festival 2018
WRITE Festival is returning to South Tyneside again this year, between 12th & 25th May. There are more events than ever, with 40 spread across the 2 weeks. The festival is held by The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in the town centre of South Shields (adjacent to Market Square and easily accessible via public transport).
Not all events are held in the Word, however, with events happening at local venues across South Tyneside. There is a wide variety of events to choose from, from poetry slams, to the chance to meet authors and publishers, to young writers’ events. If this is your kind of thing, there’ll be an event to suit your needs. There’s even a “Silent Book Disco”! There are plenty of family-friendly events, so if you’ve got any little budding literary genius you can think of, they can come too!
You are required to book for most events, so it may be worth looking to see what tickets are available if you’re interested. You can find a full list of the events included in the festival online.
Ticket prices vary, but some events are even free! WRITE Festival 2018 is supported by Arts Council England.
The Word runs other events all year round, so be sure to keep an eye out on their website in case there’s anything you’d be interested in. If you’re a member of South Tyneside Libraries, you can also take advantage of the 70,000 books that they have in stock in their library. It also holds a FabLab, where trained staff run a programme of workshops that give you the chance to use equipment such as 3D printers and vinyl/laser cutters.
