Creative Lives – 20th March – Katie Schwab and James Hutchinson

Creative Lives is a series of lectures about how artists work, live and thrive in the arts and creative industries.

The next lecture is on Tuesday 20th March 4.00-6.00pm in Gateway 1 lecture theatre, and is open to all.

Katie Schwab is interested in the politics of constructing and inhabiting living space: how the building, designing, furnishing and upkeep of rooms can reveal the values, politics and ethics of the people that live there. She has a particular interest in communal living and working situations, and how an individual voice might be found within the context of a shared living space or workshop: this is explored in her work through reference to 19th, 20th and 21st century domestic design, craft processes and interpersonal relationships.

Programme Leader for MA Fine Art and Senior Lecturer for BA
(Hons) Fine Art, James Hutchinson has exhibited nationally and internationally. His practice embraces a wide variety of media. He runs a studio in Whitley Bay with on-going drawing, painting, digital sculpture, and photographic projects. He has worked with architects on regeneration projects and collaborated on sound and performance
works as one half of H+M.
