Pretty Girls of Sunderland<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As I walked up Sunderland Streets,<\/p>\n

It was upon a Monday eve;<\/p>\n

About the hour of ten o\u2019clock,<\/p>\n

As a nigh as I could then perceive,<\/p>\n

I soon espied two pretty girls,<\/p>\n

Links in each others\u2019 arms, O,<\/p>\n

And soon as them I did espy,<\/p>\n

My blood ran quick and warm, too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So we rolled along, and sweetly sung,<\/p>\n

To the pretty girls of Sunderland.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I stepped up to those pretty girls,<\/p>\n

And found them kind and loving, O,<\/p>\n

So I took one of them by the hand,<\/p>\n

I found her pulse was moving, O,<\/p>\n

I said, my dear be not afraid,<\/p>\n

You see I am a Sailor, O,<\/p>\n

I am looking out for a ship my lass,<\/p>\n

To go on board this evening; O.<\/p>\n

She said, young man what do you mean,<\/p>\n

Pray tell me where your cargo lies,<\/p>\n

What makes you rove the streets so late,<\/p>\n

I think the town is full of spies;<\/p>\n

I said, my dear, be not afraid,<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll have a pint the best we can,<\/p>\n

With all my heart, my sailor lad,<\/p>\n

And you shall have what you demand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We went straightway unto an inn,<\/p>\n

And ran up stairs like thunder, O,<\/p>\n

Which put the landlord in surprise,<\/p>\n

And made the house to wonder, O,<\/p>\n

I then call\u2019d for the landlady,<\/p>\n

To bring a pint of brandy, O,<\/p>\n

And fill us up a flowing glass,<\/p>\n

By Jove she was my Dandy, O.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I then fill\u2019d up another glass,<\/p>\n

Saying take this, and so begone,<\/p>\n

She tapp\u2019d me on the back and said<\/p>\n

I believe you\u2019re up-to-snuff, young man;<\/p>\n

I see that you\u2019re a sporting blade,<\/p>\n

And on shore have lately come,<\/p>\n

To sport and play your time away<\/p>\n

With the pretty girls in Sunderland.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She said, young man; what is your name,<\/p>\n

And to what port do you belong;<\/p>\n

I believe you are broken loose,<\/p>\n

The town is now a very throng;<\/p>\n

I am a sailor as you say,<\/p>\n

And to Newcastle I belong,<\/p>\n

And if ever you come that way my dear,<\/p>\n

To find me out you can\u2019t go wrong.<\/p>\n
