Angela Smith is Reader in Language and Culture at Sunderland University. She has published Discourses Surrounding British Widows of the First World War (2012) with Bloomsbury, and also a journal article, ‘Discourses of morality and truth in social welfare: the surveillance of British widows of the First World War’, Social Semiotics (Vol 20, no. 5, November 2010). She has also guest edited the Journal of War and Culture Studies special edition on Reporting War (vol. 5: 2). Her current research interests relate to how the First World War is memorialised.
