Patrick began his PhD research in Sunderland in May 2014 as one of the students who received a Beacon Fund scholarship. He will be looking at the Last Dying Speeches of people executed in the North East between 1750-1880 and the role that the crowd played at the execution. He is developing a blog to illustrate this research (www.lastdyingwords.wordpress.com) and is hoping to build on this to develop an online resource about public punishment in the North East region, specifically about the people who were executed in public.
