Research undertaken under the Regulation and Control subtheme is concerned with developing a critical appreciation of mechanisms for crime control and offender management. Recent research has included ethnographic research of Police Community Support Officers and their contribution to neighbourhood policing, an appreciative inquiry of the central significance of consent, authority and legitimacy within contemporary police work, and an exploratory study regarding the contribution of Special Constables to frontline policing under austerity. The management of domestic violence perpetrators within the probation service and expanding the evidence base for ‘what works’ in tackling domestic violence have also been central concerns.
