Spring / Summer 2016

Full Time – 37 Hours per week for 12 weeks

£9.40 per hour (£18,135 per annum)

Have you completed at least one year of a University of Sunderland programme?

If so, we are looking for four exceptional students to undertake a 12 week internships here at the University of Sunderland in London!

Following on from the success of our previous Internship Programmes in 2015, we are looking for our next cohort of exceptional interns with two alternative starting dates to fit your studying schedule.


This time we have four distinctive internship programmes available in our Student Recruitment team, Student Relations team and in our Library (details below). These internships will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to work within our business and directly manage a variety of projects that will contribute to the continuous enhancement of the services we provide to you, our student body and will develop many of your skills!

With our internships comes a great suite of support from an exceptional team of our supportive staff. This includes a full induction, a suite of training and development, on hand careers support, mentoring from your Internship sponsor, a portfolio of evidence and a learning log, as well as a fantastic employer’s reference upon the successful completion of your internship.

Internship in Student Recruitment
You will have an opportunity to boost your communication and project management skills by working alongside Student Recruitment team on a project to develop a communication plan with our alumni network and contribute to the creation of alumni success stories and case studies. You will also develop a set of interpersonal skills by assisting with the provision of information and advice to prospective undergraduate students and their advisers about opportunities and benefits of study at the University of Sunderland in London. To develop your organisational, events management and presentation skills you may be also asked to assist in organisation of internal university events such as student open days, one-to-one personal consultations and campus tours.
Ideally you should have good standard of written and spoken English, have a creative mind and be comfortable engaging with people and communicating using a range of platforms, including phone, emails and social media.

Internship in Library Services
You will work closely with the Library team to investigate and analyse user behaviour in order to identify our customers’ needs and develop the ways in which we deliver and market our services. You will monitor and analyse the usage of our website and our physical space, and promote our services as well as our social media platforms. To achieve your project objectives you will also design and carry out user surveys, compile results, and make recommendations. To gain a valuable insight into the Library operations, you may be involved in additional work such as stock inventory and supporting the issue desk.
We expect you to have a good eye for detail to monitor and analyse data, and good communication skills to engage with our users.
Internship in Student Relations Team

Student Event Management
Working alongside our Student Relations Assistant (Sport and Activity) and a team of exceptional student support professionals, you will develop your project and events management skills to deliver sport and society participation opportunities that enhance the experience of our student body. You will be asked to research and implement one new student activity and one new student society.
Ideally you should have project and events management skills and good communication skills to be able to engage with the students. Having time management skills is also important.

Internship in Marketing and Communications

Working alongside our Student Relations Assistant team, you will develop your marketing and communications skills to deliver projects in social media and online platforms (web and content update). You will run a series of communication projects to increase participation from internal and external stakeholders using the University’s social media and web platforms. You will lead on targeted initiatives, design projects and be involved in the delivery of internal and external communications with strong support from professionals, increasing your technical skills in marketing as well as awareness of corporate tone, in house style and a number of design techniques.
You should have basic marketing skills and knowledge of communications strategies, together with experience of social media and online platforms.

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, the Business Enterprise Certificate is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain the skills you will need.

The University of Sunderland in London is looking for bright, enthusiastic students to join this exciting programme in which you will learn about all aspects of business and leadership from an industry expert. Who is running the programme?

The programme is run by Alistair Galloway, a company director who has a wide and varied career portfolio having reached the rank of captain in the British Army before embarking on a seven year city career in asset management. He is now the owner of two security and risk management consultancies. In addition, Alistair has also successfully run a military charity and is involved in the development of entrepreneurial hubs in diaspora communities in the UK.


Who can apply?

The programme is open to all students on all courses. Your visa must be valid for the duration of the course.  There is no cost to you.

All we ask is for your commitment, enthusiasm and some ideas from which to develop a small business. As this is a practical course in which you will learn through experience, you will need an idea from which to write your business plan. Don’t worry if this is not well developed at this stage; the course will help you learn the skills your need to further establish it.
