International Women’s Day 2017

SunGen marked International Women’s Day by celebrating intersectionality in the feminist movement with an engaging conversation with Holly Sterling.  Vice Chancellor Professor Shirley Atkinson opened proceedings.

Holly is a highly acclaimed children’s illustrator and author.  She shared her own experience as a mixed-race woman and her journey to becoming a published author and illustrator.  She also discussed why it is important that children should be able to see mixed race families depicted in books.

Holly’s talk was followed by some lively activities organised by Trish Bryans to get attendees to engage with the concept of intersectionality and to share their own re-imaginings of what it means to be part of the ‘sisterhood’.
